In a desperate bid to keep its fleet of Eurostar Eurostar coaches on the road, the operator of the service says it will soon stop flying them.
“The Eurostar fleet is being withdrawn from service,” Eurostar spokeswoman Annabelle Perna said.
“The service is not available.
We have been unable to locate a suitable alternative, so the service will no longer be offered.”
The service, which runs from Brussels to Milan and back, had been running since October.
It is expected to be decommissioned next year.
The company says it cannot afford to replace Eurostar cars, as the fleet is “highly redundant”.
“The fleet is highly redundant.
The service has been withdrawn from use, and Eurostar is not offering any further assistance,” Pernas statement read.”
The service will be discontinued at the end of the month.
Eurostar will therefore be no longer offering service.”
Eurostar’s Eurostar service from Brussels, France, to Milan.
The train is being decommissioning and replaced with a bus service.
The train service was not expected to continue, despite having been operating since December.
In November, the company said it had been “understaffed and underprepared” for the Eurotron service.
“It was a very difficult decision, one that was taken as the result of a number of factors, including the ongoing operational problems, the high level of Eurotrons use in our service area, the poor quality of our customer service and the increased use of mobile services by passengers,” the company explained.
“It is also a matter of our own personal finances, and the fact that we are running on a budget, which we do not have any plans to reduce,” it added.
At the time, the Eurostars services from Brussels and France to Milan were supposed to be shut down on December 31.
But on February 9, the Belgian state announced it would keep the trains running.
“Eurostar has decided to stop all Eurostar services from the city of Brussels and the surrounding regions until the end-of-year, February 2021, when the service is expected back on the streets of the city,” it said.
On Friday, the national transport authority announced the service would remain in operation.
‘It’s not easy’Perna told Le Monde newspaper that the Eurostron service is “the most expensive service in the world” but that the company would be able to maintain it in the long run.
“We have been working for more than 20 years with the European Union to secure a viable and sustainable future for Eurostar,” she said.
